Art Reflection

The unit we have been doing for a large portion of the year is all about expressing personality and feelings through art. We had to pick three animals and create a combination of all three. We then paper mached them into a mask, creating texture and an effective colour scheme. My mask was a combined animal, from Jack Russell, tiger and eagle. I tried to express the fierce and graceful personality of the tiger, the playful and feisty personality of the Jack Russell and the proud majestic personality of the eagle. The colour scheme I used was a warm analogy colour scheme. I have an eagle beak and dog ears. I am now painting tiger stripes on my mask, to add in an aspect of a tiger and to decorate the mask more.

About Different Colour Schemes

There are many different colour schemes, complementary colours are opposite to each other on the color wheel. Red and green, yellow and purple, blue and orange, are the three simple pairs of complementary colors. These colors always go well with each other, hence the term complimentary. They make each other stand out, and make the other colour look bolder.

The analogous color scheme uses colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel. One color is used as a dominant color while others are used to enrich the scheme. Examples:
Red, orange and yellow. or blues and greens.

Mask Colour Scheme

When I paint my mask, my colour scheme is going to be bright. This is to show the bubbly, optimistic and excited personalities of the Jack Russell. I am including a deep red, because I think that this represents the eagle’s majestic personality. I think that the tiger is represented by the oranges and yellows, because tigers are proud, poised and graceful. I think that this colour scheme will show the combined personalities of my three animals in an interesting and effective way.

These are some words I have brainstormed to describe my three animals, eagles, tigers and jack russell terriers.

Animal Masks

Animal Masks
My animals for my mask are an eagle, a tiger and a jack russel terrier. I chose these animals because I think these animals have interesting characteristics that make them unique, like their texture, their personality and the way that they move.

Hillary Clinton

Images are political. If there is a journalist, and they are writing an article about how good a president Hillary Clinton would be, they would pick a flattering picture of her to match the article and help promote her. If they are writing a bad article, they will pick a bad image.

Picture one shows Hillary at her best. She looks proud and confident. The artist (photographer) has captured her at an angle which is very flattering and would be a good promoting image to put in the newspapers and magazines.

Photo two is the opposite of photo one. In this photo, the photographer has captured her at an extremely unflattering angle. In this photo she looks defeated and not at all confident. If this was included in an article it would most

Photo three is another good picture of her. In this, she looks like she has triumphed over Barack Obama, who is the man in the photo, and her competitor. She looks confident and happy, and he looks like he has been defeated. The photographer has captured at and angle which is very positive for her. If this was put into an article, chances are it would be promoting her and the journalist would be trying to convince the readers that she would do a good job as the President of the United States.

APPRAISING IMAGES ~ describing, analysing, interpreting

Describe what you see in the image below ~ look very closely.

When you look at this picture your eyes are instantly drawn to the eyes of the leopard. The eyes are bright blue, and when

you look closer you can see that the eyes are actually two birds. The artist has used shape and colour to make the leopard

look dangerous. They have used the leopard because they are fast, and that infers that the BMW cars are really fast and

smooth. The bird is there because birds can fly, fast and free by using this animal combination they are inferring that this

card is fast, smooth and with it, you have freedom.

This is an advertisement – what aspect of BMW’s product is the advertisement drawing attention to?

It is drawing attention to the fact that BMW produces cars that are very fast and smooth. They are trying to convince people
that their car will be satisfactory.

Lisa Roet

List the main ELEMENTS of ART used by Roet to create this work

1. Line

2. Texture

3. Tone

What do you see? Describe the work Pri-Mate Hands 1 2005.

Roet has created this artwork so that it looks real by using the elements of art. She has used tone by creating light and dark

areas in the hands. It creates shadow, just like a real hand would have. She has used line to create the shape of the hand

and to give the hand wrinkles. I believe that a hand would not be plain and bare, it would have lines from age, use and

exposure to the weather.

What materials has Roet used to create this work?

She has created this artwork by using charcoal and conte on a large piece of silk paper.

Using the evidence in the work what meaning do you think Roet was trying to communicate?

Perhaps she was trying to communicate that we all come from the same place and that we all should care about each

other. Also, that we should respect the things around us, like the animals and the vegetation. This is what I believe she was

trying to communicate by creating this drawing.
